Dear Toshi
I give you pictures from France of nice Cyp. calceolus. They
grow in burgundy ,near Dijon ,in a protected area .This is the
first time ,for me, who I can see real "big"orchids
in wild .I hope you enjoy ,with the pic .
They grow in Burgundy, at the north east of Dijon (w.o.c in
2005). The aera was particularly cold during winter, and so warm
in summer. ( continental climate ).
In this protected zone ,we can find rare animals and plants,
in quiet good conditions .
For example : Gentiana luteola (usual in Jura, Alpes ..........
) Gentiana pneumonanthe (little blue one), Epipactis lacustris
(orchids) ............ and both common plants. In animals ,we
can find barn-owl of tengmaln (Aegolius funereus) ,wild cat (
Felis silvestris ), marten (Martes martes ).
The Cypripedium grow on hill side in beech grove, on calcareous
soil ,with sunny exposition (south ) or along the way in moist
ground and half shade, I think this plant can grow in differents
conditions but are well both ! To see ,the most important colony
,we must follow the way made by the National office of forest
of C´'f4te d' Or.
The path was limitited by cords ,and we will admire these beauty
.The coloration was different ,the most common is deep violaceous
(see the pictures ,but in fact it was the same variety ).They
will bloom in may this year in the begining of may (we have good
conditions of sun and hottest temperatures than other years )
,but currently at middle to the end of may .
