Welcome to the
first Conference Newsletter !! VENUE The Orchid Club
of SA Inc. conducts its Annual Spring Show in this Hall and has
done so successfully for the past 6 years. Centennial Hall has
several large entrance doors with adjacent parking to allow easy
access for exhibitors setting up their display sites = DATES a.. The Conference
set up will be on Tuesday 16th. September. A detailed open schedule is being compiled and will include Grand Champion of the Show, and several display categories. All orchid growers will be encouraged to exhibit. Growers who travel more than 120 kms to Adelaide will be allowed to register and display cut florescences. All qualified Orchid Judges who are registrants will be welcome to assist with the judging, including the Championship classes. COMMERCIAL SALE BOOTHS Sale booths will be available and will be set up in Centennial Hall. For further details contact Reg Shooter (see below). LECTURE PROGRAMME The lecture programme will include speakers from around the world. These are being considered now. Suggestions of speakers to be included would be welcomed by the programme organizer, Reg Shooter (see below). The centre of Adelaide has many choices of four and five star accommodation, such as the many International Hotel chains, ie The Hyatt, Hilton etc. Self contained apartments are also available. These too are within easy reach of Centennial Hall by a short taxi ride or public bus trip. Parking will be available in the Show grounds. FOOD There are restaurant facilities within Centennial Hall and catering kiosks in the grounds of Wayville are normally open during special events such as the Conference. Adelaide is well known for its many good restaurants and cafes covering a diverse cuisine and price structure. OTHER ATTRACTIONS As well as visiting and /or participating in the Conference, South Australia offers many places of interest such as the Flinders Ranges, Kangaroo Island, the Opal town of Coober Pedy, the Yorke and Eyre Peninsulas. Within one hour's drive from Adelaide you can visit the beautiful south coast town Victor Harbour or the historic township of Hahndorf in the Adelaide Hills or the famous Barossa Valley and its many wineries.
